Cross-strait Telecom Meeting to be Kicked off on Tue

A two-day annual summit between Taiwanese and Chinese telecom companies is slated to open on August 27 in Greater Taichung, Taiwan, according to Taiwan's Commercial Times. Topics of the meeting will cover smart cities, online payment systems, and cooperation on 4G mobile broadband networks, as both sides are planning to issue 4G licenses in this year. Chinese participants include representatives from the MIIT (Ministry of Industry and Information Technology), China Telecom, China Mobile, China Unicom, ZTE, Huawei, and Datang Telecom etc. The conference will also attract representatives from Taiwanese companies, such as Far EasTone Telecommunications, HTC, Quanta, Gemtek, Sercomm, Unizyx Holding, and Arcadyan to name a few. The total procurement amount by the Chinese delegation this year is expected to exceed that of last year, which was around US$220 million, according to the report.
